Cholla Wood is what happens when a prickly desert cactus retires. Derived from the dried husk of the Cholla Cactus, this hollow, porous aquarium wood is a functional powerhouse. Its iconic honeycomb structure isn't just for aesthetics; it serves as a biological factory for biofilm and a high-security nursery for small aquatic life.

• Cholla is famous for stimulating the growth of biofilm, a natural, nutrient-rich film that serves as the primary food source for shrimp.
• The hollow center and perforated walls create the perfect "safe house" for molting shrimp and small fish to hide from larger tank mates.
• Its unique texture makes it incredibly easy to attach mosses, Anubias, or Bucephalandra. Over time, it can be transformed into a lush, living sunken log that anchors your planted aquarium hardscape.
• Cholla releases beneficial tannins that slightly lower pH levels, mimicking the natural blackwater environments in which many tropical species thrive.

Preparation and Care

1. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the piece to remove any dust or debris from transit.
   
2. The Sinking Process: Dry Cholla is very lightweight and will float initially. To get it to stay put, we recommend soaking it in a bucket for 24–48 hours or boiling it for 20 minutes to help it become waterlogged.
